Joseph George Lauwers, Jr., born November 1, 1935 in Detroit, died February 8, 2016 in Rose City, Michigan. Joe died peacefully at home the morning of February 8, 2016 at the age of 80, surrounded by family.
Joe worked proudly as an ironworker, including 26 years as the president and business agent for Reinforced Ironworkers Local 426 in Detroit, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Rose Valley Club, eventually purchasing the property and making it a permanent home for his family. A man of honor, Joe was respected for his integrity and loyalty, and loved for his generosity and fairness. Thoughtful and quiet, when he spoke it was with great care and wisdom.
Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor “Jean” (Pierce) Lauwers; two children, Amy Davidson (Lori Hart) and Joe Lauwers (Karen Holko); and three grandchildren, Matthew Davidson (Emily Ross), Holly Shakeshaft (Stephen), and Sara Davidson. He will be missed by a large, loving extended family, and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lauwers Sr. and Marguerite (Claeys) Lauwers; and by four siblings, Louise Harrison, Gerald Lauwers, George Lauwers, and Alan Lauwers.
A memorial service will be held in May.
