John Wesley Lockhart, age 73, ended his journey on earth Saturday, August 3, 2019 at his home in West Branch with his family by his side. He was born on October 15, 1945 in Highland Park, MI to Russell and Winifred (Sherman) Lockhart. He retired to West Branch, MI in 2007. Formerly, he served as teacher and school administrator at six different Lutheran schools in Illinois, Michigan, Colorado and California. John received degrees from colleges in Ann Arbor, MI and Seward, NE. On July 15, 1967 he married Carol Jennejahn in Hilton, NY. John attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Rose City and was a former member of Kiwanis of West Branch. He was a dedicated U of M fan and loved to watch all sports. John coached basketball, softball and track and played slow pitch softball for several years. He volunteered at churches where he served and enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing euchre and BBQ’s.
John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Lockhart of West Branch; daughter, Jennifer Lockhart of Denver, CO; grandson, Jonathan Lockhart of Santa Monica, CA; brothers, Lawrence (Mary Lu) Lockhart of West Branch and James Lockhart of Addison, MI; sister in law, Joyce Redding of Rochester, NY; extended family, Gary (Mary) Bishop of Norton Shores, MI and Joel (Michelle) Bishop of Atlanta, GA; goddaughter, Michele Bishop of Grand Haven, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister in law, Betty Lockhart.
A Celebration Service of Life and Love will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, M-33 and Sage Lake Road, in Rose City at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Jeff Bonn will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Compassus Hospice or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
