John Raymond Kartes

John Raymond Kartes, age 88 of West Branch, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his home. John was born June 5, 1924 in West Branch, the son of Stephen and Agnes Kartes. He married Hazel G. Osbourn on September 27, 1947. John had lived in West Branch all his life. John enjoyed life, gardening, spending time with all his grandchildren, and riding through the trails with his golf cart. John had a great love of music and enjoyed playing the guitar for residents at Bortz Health Care. John is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Hazel G. Kartes of West Branch, son, Steve Kartes of Gladwin, Joyce (Charles) Grezeszak of Lupton, grandchildren, Jenniffer (Steven) Cline of West Branch, Tamara (Vern) Weller of East Tawas, Cary (Tamara) Grezeszak of Lupton, Joe (Lisa) Grezeszak of West Branch, Wally (Cindy) Kaplaniak of Bay City, Jane Hager of Bay City, great-grandchildren, Alexandra (Brent) Wangler of West Branch, Caleb Grezeszak of Lupton, Vern Weller III of East Tawas, Emily Cline of West Branch, Hannah Cline of West Branch, great-great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Cayden, Logan, and Katie Wangler all of West Branch. Also surviving is brother, Robert (Alice) Kartes of West Branch, sister-in-law, Beatrice Kartes of West Branch, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, Stephen and Agnes Kartes, daughter, Janith Kaplaniak, siblings, Alvena Illig, Theresa Croton, Pauline Sumner, Steve Kartes, Marie Ackerman, Lawrence Kartes, Irene Schmidt, and Rose Reminder. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 1-7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. John Munn will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands.
