John L. Selesky, age 92 passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his home. John had lived in Rose City since 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an aircraft pilot. John worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp., he spent 9 years as a firetower lookout and served 20 years as a Conservation Officer-Pilot both for the DNR in Mio. John was a member of the Holy Family K of C #8948, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 73 and the American Legion Post 106 both of Grayling, a member of the Ogemaw County Veterans Association and a member of the Air Force Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved flying. John is survived by his wife Sylvia Selesky of Rose City, his children, John (Bea) Selesky of El Paso, TX., Jeffrey (Lorene) Selesky of Marquette, Ann Bush of Hastings, Barbara Selesky of Frederic, Sandra Oehus of Vassar, Sharlott (Thomas) Williams of Lakeland,Fl.,several grand children, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are his brother, James Selesky of Waterloo, IA and his sisters, Alice Thompson of Selkirk and Marguerite Michaelis of Sealy, TX. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Virginia (Hartley) Selesky, his son Alex Michael, his sisters Agnes Post, Elizabeth Visnaw and Carol Low and his brother David Selesky. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City, then will continue from 6-9 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. There will be a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Fr. Patrick Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family who will donate to the various Veterans organizations.
