John Kenneth Salters Sr., age 67 of West Branch, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home under the care of Hospice of Helping Hands. Ken had lived in West Branch since 1990, formerly of Detroit. He retired from the Detroit Police Department after 25 years of service. Ken was a member of the VFW Post #3775, the D.A.V. and St. Joseph Catholic Church of West Branch. He enjoyed boating, carpentry, reading, hunting and playing euchre. Ken is survived by his wife JoAnn Salters of West Branch, his children Kimberly (Rich) Rybak of Sterling Heights, Dawn (Tim) Babich of Port Huron, John Salters Jr. (Alisha Peters) of West Branch, Brian Salters (Marti Ramirez) of Columbia, MD and Melissa (Moe) Rahnama of Severn, MD and grandchildren Christopher, Justin, Eryn, Benjamin, Matthew, Alex, Jason, Ethan and Emily. Also surviving are his sisters, Barbara (Fred) Archutowski of Inverness, FL, Paulette (Jerry) Stanislawski of St. Clair Shores and Geralyn Mitch of South Lyon, his brother Tim (Dawn) Salters of Gig Harbor, WA, his sister-in-law Irene Salters of Arlington, TX and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Theresa Salters, his brother Michael Salters and his brother-in-law Gary Mitch. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 3-9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Ken will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family.
