John J. Schlagel, age 72 of West Branch, passed away Monday June 7, 2010 at his home. John had lived in West Branch since 1998, formerly of Sterling Heights. He retired from G.M. after 36 years. John was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, a member of Motor State Street Rods, the Oscoda County Cruisers, Rods and Relics of West Branch, the Lions Club, the Eagles and the UAW Local #909. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, bowling and working on old cars. John is survived by his wife Sharon “Lee” Schlagel of West Branch, children, Phillip (Terri) Schlagel of Rochester Hills and Paul (Patricia) Schlagel of Troy, grandchildren; Robert, Brandy, Amanda, Nicole, Rachel and Scott. Also surviving is his sister, Anna (Don) Coveyou of National City, his brother, George (Linda) Schlagel of Turner, his in-laws, Margaret (Walter) Romanski of West Branch, Dave (Janet) Romanski of New River AZ and Dennis (Barbara) Romanski of Manchester, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Schlagel. Visitation at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 165 E. Sage Lake Road, Rose City, MI 48654, will begin on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Dan Stoneback will officiate.
