John Germain, age 94, passed away December 6, 2005 after a two year stay at Gladwin Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born and raised near Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula, John started working at a lumber camp at a very young age, after the death of his father. John married Geraldine Barron in 1932, and raised 10 children. They were married for 64 years, before Gerry died in 1996. John was also preceded in death by three of their children, Delight who died at 44 years of age in 1977, John Jr. who died in 2000 at age 65 and Gary, who died in 2001 at age 62. John is survived by his sons, Wayne (Pris) Germain, Dean (Margo) Germain, Dennis (Rose) Germain and Barry Germain and daughters, Faith (Fred) Pieper, Mary Gail (Don) McGovern, and Karen (Ray) Richardson. There are also 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. John was a machinist, mechanic, tool maker and talented wood worker. He was also an avid hunter for many years. After retiring to Secord Lake in 1975 they enjoyed traveling, staying in California for 6 weeks each winter, with their son Gary and his family. They enjoyed a trip to Paris to celebrate their 25th anniversary and a trip to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary. John had many friends and will be greatly missed by his family. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Thursday, December 8, 2005 from 3-9 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 8:30 p.m. and a K of C Rosary at 8:45 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. Fr. Robert Bissot will officiate with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Branch.
