John Henry Mitchell

John Henry Mitchell, age 84, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. He was born on October 6, 1938, in West Branch, MI to Louis and Frances (Izworski) Mitchell. John lived in West Branch for most of his life.

On July 18, 1959, John married Judith DeMatio in West Branch.

John worked at the Ogemaw County Road Commission for 35 years. John and Judy enjoyed the winters in Florida for many years after retirement. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch and Knights of Columbus Council #2022 and was an Honorary Thespian. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, cooking, gardening, wood working, camping, bingo, and coaching Little League. John was always lending a helping hand and cherished spending time with his family. You could always count on him attending events for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

John is survived by his loving wife Judy Mitchell of West Branch, MI; daughter Julie (Dean Woody) LaFramboise of Bay City; granddaughter, Melissa (Mike) Schmidt; grandson Matt (Allyson) LaFramboise; great grandchildren Sydney, Sophie, and Jacob Schmidt; brother Joe (Donna) Mitchell; sister Jane Cueller; and brothers in law Donald Schroeder and Don (Mary) DeMatio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffrey Mitchell, sister Lucille Schroeder, sister and brother in law Mary (Joe) Palazzolo, brother in law Caesar Cuellar, and goddaughter Vickie Schroeder.

Visitation will be at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch starting on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Father Nick Cooper will officiate.
