John A. Tipler Jr. age 85 of West Branch, passed away at his home Wednesday, June 19, 2013. John was born March 15, 1928 to John and Mabel Tipler in River Rouge, Michigan. He formerly resided in Lincoln Park and Prescott for over 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #370, the Three County Club and St. Stephens Catholic Church. John served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving on the USS O’Bannon in the South Pacific. He worked for the Lincoln Park police department and retired from Ford Motor Company after 17 years. John enjoyed fishing, big band music and sports. John is survived by his wife Karen Tipler of West Branch, his children Deborah (Robert) Frederick of Prudenville, John Tipler III of Lincoln Park and Dennis (Cathy) Tipler of Tye, TX., his stepchildren Lisa (Mark) Earl of Alger, David Bookie (Jessica Gruebner) of Sterling and Andrea (Chris ) Noakes and Sheila (Norm) Pfeiffer both of West Branch, 28 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his first wife Shirley, his son Daniel Tipler and his grandson, Daniel Tipler II. Burial with Navy Honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 5th, 2013 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7th, 2013 at the American Legion Post #370 in Alger, Michigan.
