Jerry Lee Bendickson, age 71, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at his home in San Antonio, FL. He had lived in South Branch, MI since 1994, formerly of Flint, MI. Jerry was born to Julius and Nellie (Walt) Bendickson in Flint, MI on November 15, 1944. He graduated from Beecher High School in Flint, MI in 1962. He married Susan Hyde on August 4, 1989 in Mt. Morris, MI. Jerry belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Clio, MI. He was a VFW member and served in the United States Navy Corp, serving with the Marines, during the Vietnam War. Jerry belonged to the United Methodist Church in Hale, MI and the Community United Methodist Church in San Antonio, FL. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. Jerry was a mentor and a very helping, giving and generous person. He was the biggest fan of the Montrose High School Football team. He was known as “Papa” to the team and provided a half time snack to all of the players for every football game.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Susan Bendickson of South Branch, MI; children, Brian Bendickson of Gaylord, MI, Sonja (James) Oswald of Jackson, MI; Julie Srda of Montrose, MI, Joe (Laura) Dessinger of Greer, SC, and Kimberly Vermette of Highland, MI; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Lewis, Darlene Enders, and Susan Most; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends, including his dear friend, Al Vermette. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, David Dessinger.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City, MI will begin on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service following. Burial at the Oak Grove Cemetery in South Branch with Veteran Honors will follow. Pastor Mel Leach will officiate.
