Jean Marie Kartes, age 83, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 in West Branch surrounded by her family. She was born on July 29, 1938 in West Branch to Samuel and Beulah (Bohnard) Ruegsegger.
Jean lived in Pinconning for 60 years, formerly of West Branch. On August 11, 1956 she married Robert “Bobbie” Kartes.
She retired from Pinny Food Center after many years of service and worked for a few years after retirement at Northwoods Wholesale in Pinconning. She loved camping and you could find her all summer long at Outdoor Adventures in Standish, MI where she made several lifelong friends from there. Jean enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, baking, genealogy, visiting friends and relatives, and traveling with her sister. Her most treasured times were spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean spent 7 years with her second love, Larry Hetherington. She is also survived by her children, Duane (Elaine) Kartes, Roger (Sue) Kartes, Ronald Kartes, and Gail (Carl) Seder; grandchildren, Amber (Brandon) Mutch, Ashley Kartes, Jason Kartes, Sarah (Cameron) Hoyt, Joshua (Jessica) Kartes, Logan Kartes, Matthew (Karissa) Kartes, Michael (Jennifer) Kartes, Katelynn (Daniel) DeArmond, Alyssa (Matthew) Faddis, Maleasa (Jason) Winter, and Brandt, Keaton, and Derek Wisniewski; great grandchildren, Brandon Jr., Beckett, Brooks, Riley, Kaiden, Gage, Irelynn, Conner, Ethan, Lacey, Trent, Chase, Darren, and Alani; and siblings, Judy Painter, Janet Norton, Hugh Ruegsegger, and twins, Martin and Michael Ruegsegger.
She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she dearly loved and who dearly loved her as well.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bobbie; stepmother, Bonnie Ruegsegger; and siblings, Catherine Winter, Doris Wood, Samuel Ruegsegger, and Patrick Ruegsegger.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
