Janice Lorraine Smith, age 67, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at MidMichigan Medical Center in West Branch. She was born on April 17, 1952 in Royal Oak, MI to Carl and Mary Jane Hockmuth. Jan lived in Prescott since 2007, formerly of Royal Oak. She was a graduate of Marian High School Class of 1970, and was looking forward to her upcoming 50th Reunion. She attended Saginaw Valley State University, and later graduated from University of Detroit Mercy with a degree in Medical Quality Assurance. Jan married the love of her life, Bill Smith, on August 1, 1981. She served as a former president of the Shrine Mothers’ Club, frequently volunteered, and enjoyed the faith and friendship of Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Cenacle. Time spent with family and friends was the best part of her life. As an avid reader, Jan was heavily involved with the Friends of the Skidway Lake Library.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Bill; children, Sarah (Cole) Bonini of Woodbridge, VA, Jason (Stephanie) Smith of Berkley, and Heidi McVeigh of Clarkston; grandchildren, Megan, Madelyn, Mia, Roland, and Simone; sister, Marianne (Rob) Yates of Wickenburg, AZ; and nieces and nephew, Melanie, Wendy, and Jared; She is preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 Twelve Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. with the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
In Jan’s own words, “My family has always been my top priority. Never doubt that you were loved.”
