James Robert Lynett

James Robert Lynett, aged 83, died suddenly at home in West Branch, Michigan on Monday, November 15, 2021. Jim was born November 20, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Joseph and Geraldine Lynett.

Jim was raised in Saginaw and attended Central Michigan University on a basketball scholarship where he played for four years. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later continued his education to receive a Master’s degree. It was while attending college that Jim met the love of his life, Martha Lee Drury. They married on February 7, 1959. For decades Jim was a school administrator and teacher serving many roles from coach to teacher to athletic director to high school principal.

Jim loved sports with a deep passion for coaching basketball. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time bird hunting, fly fishing, canoeing, hiking, and just being outdoors with family and friends. His life was full of travel and adventures with his wife Martha by his side for fifty-seven years. Books were never far from his side as he fed his love for reading. His passion extended to community education and public speaking at annual teaching seminars. He relished the company of his family and friends and seemed to know everyone he ran into wherever he went. His Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were the light of his life.

Over the past few years, Jim enjoyed traveling with his dear friend and companion, Grace Orr.

Jim is survived by, his brothers-in-law John Drury and Tom Dorey, his sister-in-law Carla Bice, his children Joseph (Laurie Burgin) Lynett of Westland, Jeffrey (Cathleen Lynch) Lynett of Washington Township, Carrie Boddy of West Branch, Tracy (Robert) Gerow of Holland, and Ann (Michael) Lambert of Clarksville; 8 grandchildren and 3 (plus another on the way) great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Martha.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
