James Howard Hanes

James Howard Hanes, age 81, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, MI. He was born on May 4, 1940 in Pontiac, MI to Barney and Alice (Winter) Hanes.

Jim lived in West Branch, MI for most of his life. On August 29, 1959 he married Barbara Goff in West Branch. He was a coin collector and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jim and Barb wintered in Frostproof, FL for 40 years.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barb Hanes of West Branch; daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Fransee of Prescott, Tammy (Chris) Steinbrunner of Goshen, IN, and Jami (Jimbo) Newsum of Ortonville, MI; grandchildren, DeAnne, Dewey (Nichole), Matthew (Tracy), Alison, and Kaden; great grandchildren, Jada, Abbey, Annie, Makayla, Madison, Marci, Jameson, and Julia; sister, Mary Rae of Auburn Hills, MI; brother, Barney (Sue) Hanes of Auburn Hills, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren, Michael and Andrea, brothers, Robert and George Hanes, and brother-in-law, Jim Rae.

Visitation will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Saturday, March 26, 2022 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Elder Steve Goff and Elder Anna Mae Goff will officiate. Burial will be at Edwards Township Cemetery.
