James Franklin Mcdowell Jr.

Rev. James Franklin McDowell Jr., age 82, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at MidMichigan Medical Center in West Branch. He lived in Prescott, MI for almost 30 years, formerly of Melvin, MI.

James was born on August 30, 1939 in McDowell County, West Virginia to James and Lucille (Isom) McDowell Sr.

On June 23, 2018 he married Nancy Lamblin in Prescott. James was a Reverend at God’s Covenant Church in Prescott. He loved visiting with people and speaking to them about the Lord. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, and carpentry work.

James is survived by his wife, Nancy McDowell; children, Jeffrey McDowell, Kenneth (Tammy) McDowell, Douglas (Maria) McDowell, Catherine (Neil) DeCaen, and Daniel McDowell; stepson, Mike Collver (Terri); stepdaughter, Trudy (Darrell) Bitler; grandchildren, Joshua McDowell, Patty King, Tom Mohlmaster, James McDowell II, Snowy DeCaen, Thaddaeus DeCaen, Catilin McDowell, Douglas McDowell Jr., Angie Fuentes, Lance Bitler, Graham Bitler, and Grace Bitler; and many great grandchildren. Also surviving are in-laws, Tommie (MaryAlice) Nicholas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Virgie McDowell; sons, Robert and Ronald McDowell; stepson, John Collver; and daughter-in-law, Paula McDowell.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at God’s Covenant Church, 203 N. Sherman St., Prescott, MI 48756. Pastor Troy Baxter will officiate.
