James Henry Clement

February 24, 1930 — March 6, 2025

St. Helen, MI

James Henry Clement, age 95 of St. Helen, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his home. James was born in Garden, MI, to James and Lula (Curry) Clement on February 24, 1930. James lived on an 80-acre farm where he hunted. His jobs as a kid were bailing hay, washing dishes at a restaurant, shoveling coal into the basement of a funeral home, and commercial fishing with “Popcorn.”

He tried out for the Chicago White Sox at their training camp in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

James went to work as an Iron Worker on the Mackinaw Bridge. He found his lifelong calling in iron work. He then spent years working in iron and supervising iron workers in and around Detroit and his nickname was “Farmey”. (That was on his helmet from the bridge). He was a 73-year member of Local 25. He worked on the Mackinaw Bridge in the caissons as an apprentice and in the hot riveting gangs as a journeyman.

He loved snowmobiling and after retirement he belonged to a camper club and spent winters in Florida.

9 days before he passed on his 95th birthday he came to Detroit and Local 25 friends brought him on the Gordie Howe Bridge and ate at his old hangout Armando’s.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

James is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister, local 25 family and many nieces and nephews.

We are forever grateful to Mark, Bev, and Shenna for the amazing care that they gave. He could not have done it without you.

Special thanks to the Richfield Township Police and EMS who went above and beyond.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place.

Arrangements by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home, St. Helen.
