James Alfred Stalsberg Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at his home in Rose City, MI surrounded by his family. He was born on May 3, 1936 in Saginaw, MI to Alfred and Ellen (Husen) Stalsberg.
James lived in Rose City for over 30 years formerly of Saginaw. He attended Arthur Hill Trade School in 1953 and served in the United States Army, as a sergeant, during the Korean War from 1953 – 1956. James worked for General Motors as skilled tradesman pipe fitter for 30 years. Once he retired from GM, he drove truck for First Armor in West Branch.
After retirement, James enjoyed ice fishing, deer hunting, and fixing and cleaning cars. His morning routine was stopping at McDonald’s in Rose City. He was wise and humorous, always making people laugh.
James is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sally Stalsberg; daughters, Tamie (Robert) Grunow and Peggy Stalsberg; sons, James (Stefi) Stalsberg Jr. and Joseph (Jackie) Stalsberg; grandchildren, Robert Grunow III, Brent Grunow, Jimmy Stalsberg, Sarah O’Neil, Kyle Launstein, Keith Launstein, Jodi Johnson, and Jenna Dhanjal; 13 great grandchildren; and special neighbors, Russ & Pam Hilts and Eric & Dena Alderton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Jessica Stalsberg.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service with military honors at 1:00 p.m. A private burial will be at Kittle Cemetery in Mio, MI.
