Irma Liebzeit, 97, a lifelong Michigan resident who lived in West Branch for more than 25 years passed away on February 21, 2013. She was born in Richmond, Michigan, August 20, 1915. She was a nurse who worked in hospitals and as a private nurse for many years. A former resident of Lewiston, she was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid Association and was a Lioness. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Branch. Known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was revered for her pies and cookies at church bake sales. She was also an avid quilter who passed the art on to other family members. She was pre-deceased by her husband, LeRoy Liebzeit and two grandchildren, Brian Bertossi and Suzanne Liebzeit. She is survived by three children, Patricia (Joe) Bertossi of West Branch, James (Bettie) Liebzeit of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Edward (Carole) Liebzeit of Jackson Hole, Wyoming as well as one sister, Betty Schichtel (Ed) of Buckley, Michigan. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brenda Bertossi Furca (John), Bret Bertossi (Linda), Brian’s wife, Sally Bertossi, James Liebzeit, Kristina Liebzeit, Jason Liebzeit and Amanda (Richard) Bird. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home with burial in Brookside Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made either to Hospice of Helping Hands, Inc., 335 E. Houghton Ave., West Branch, Michigan, 48661 or the Ogemaw Commission on Aging, 1528 South M-33, West Branch, Michigan, 48661.
