Irene R. Weldon

Irene R. (Diebold ) Weldon, age 97, of West Branch, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Weldon was born to John and Emma Diebold of West Branch. She graduated from St. Joseph High School. She worked as a dental assistant in Detroit after graduation. Irene joined the Women’s Auxiliary Corps. in WWII, returning to Detroit after being discharged. She married Dr. Lee Weldon and moved to West Branch where he opened a dental office. After closing the dental office in West Branch the couple moved to Palmdale, CA. where they spent most of their lives. After the death of Dr. Weldon Irene moved back to West Branch. Irene was active in Hospice of Helping Hands, and volunteered in the gift shop at West Branch Regional Medical Center. Irene also belonged to the West Branch Genealogical Society. Irene is survived by sister, Kathleen Pedroza of West Branch, nieces, Jacquoline Weiler of West Branch, Beverly (Dave) Bosley of Taylor, and Joanne (Jerry) Ehinger of West Branch. Also surviving are great nieces, and nephews, and great- great nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great nephew. She is preceded in death by husband James Lee Weldon in 1969. A Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church will be held Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM with the family receiving friends and relatives from 10:00 am until time of service. Entombment will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Palmdale, CA. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School Endowment Fund or Hospice of Helping Hands.
