Ilona Kathryn Harwood

Ilona Kathryn (Siren) Harwood age 76; of West Branch, MI; passed away on May 31, 2017. Ilona was born in Marquette, MI on October 22, 1940 to Thomas and Elma (Hurtley) Siren. She attended Northern Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. While attending Northern she met the love of her life, Kenneth Harwood. Ken and Ilona were married on December 16, 1961 and have celebrated 56 years of marriage. The couple moved to New Haven, MI after graduation where Ilona taught 2nd grade for New Haven Community Schools until she retired in 1990. Ilona enjoyed retirement where she kept busy between their homes in West Branch, MI and Lakeland, FL. Ilona was an avid golfer, recording seven hole-in-ones and several club championships. Her other passions included reading, dancing with Ken, hosting wonderful dinner parties with friends and attending her grandchildren’s events.

Ilona is survived by her husband Ken; daughters, Stacy (Lee) Visbara of Shelby Twp, Jodi (Ken) Wencel of Newport and son, Scott (Kim) Harwood of Lake Orion Twp. Grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Brady, Cathy and Lauren and one great-grandchild, Isabella. Ilona was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Aileen MacPherson and Thelma Billings.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home, 109 E. Houghton Ave., West Branch, MI at 1:00 PM with family receiving friends from 12:00 PM until time of service. Pastor Dan Stoneback will officiate.
