Lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 while embraced by his loving family and friends. He was born May 4, 1947, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, the son of Rev. Leo R. and Violet Lorane (Ellis) Curtis. On December 6, 1969, he married Judy Carrol Baker in Ypsilanti and she survives. Kip was the Proud Owner of Kip and Carrol Sports for many years before retiring and moving to St. Helen, MI. He loved softball; played, sponsored and coached teams for 30 years and also played and organized pool tournaments. He loved all sports; enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all loved being with family and friends. He will always be remembered for helping anyone in a time of need. Survivors include his wife, Carrol; daughter, Angela Robyn (Mike) Warden; son, Jerry Chad Curtis; granddaughter, Kayla Nycole Warden; his mother, Violet Curtis; 2 sisters and brother: Sondra Ison, Lynne (Frank) Herndon and J.D. (Debby) Curtis; sisters-in-law: Martha Baker and Sindy (Bill) Schermerhorn; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Tom Edwards and family. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 3, 2010 at l:00 p.m. at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home, 702 N. St. Helen Rd., St. Helen, MI. Pastor Calvin Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, St. Helen, Michigan. Family will receive friends in St. Helen on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
