Howard L. Schroeder, age 88, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008 at West Branch Regional Medical Center. He had lived in West Branch since 2000, formerly of East Tawas and Ann Arbor. He was a member of Tawas Area Presbyterian Church, and an associate member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Rose City, Lions Club of Ann Arbor, East Tawas, and Rose City, and Elks Club of Ann Arbor and East Tawas. He volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital of Tawas, and West Branch Regional Medical Center. Howard enjoyed life and brought a smile to all that new him. His many hobbies were fishing, hunting, painting, writing, and his computer. Howard served as Wire Chief in the US Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. After retiring in 1977 from Michigan Bell Telephone Company, he moved to Ogemaw County. Mr. Schroeder is survived by his children, Cathy (Fred) Oberdick of Rose City, Tom (Diane) Schroeder of Clearwater, FL, Jess (Julie) Schroeder of Cincinnati, OH, and Sue Schroeder of Clare, grandchildren, Carrie Schaufele, Ginger Stoneback, Lance Oberdick, Katie Muma, Joe Schroeder, Justin Schroeder and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Mildred Brissette of Royal Oak. He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia (Betty) Schroeder. A memorial service will be held at Tawas Area Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2008. Rev. Richard Vogeley and Rev. Dan Stoneback will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Tawas Area Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden Fund or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
