Howard J Diehl

Howard J Diehl, age 93, of Lupton, MI passed away at his home on Sunday, September 3, 2017 with his children by his side. He was born on July 25, 1924 to Nellie (Grenier) and Harold Diehl in Hunter Creek, MI. He had an adventurous soul leaving school at the age of 14, traveling around the states, living on the “Bum” as he called it. When Howard turned 17, he joined the Conservation Corp and served in Upper Michigan. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and was stationed in England during WWII as a medic. After his discharge in 1947, he met his wife of 56 years, Helen Iva Mogg. They were married on February 14, 1948. He worked at Buick in Flint, MI for several years, and then moved to Selkirk, MI where he bought his Grandpa Greniers family farm. Farming was his true love but he worked many other jobs to make ends meet. In 1989, he sold his farm to his son and daughter in law, Ron and Lisa Diehl, and moved to his present home on Williams Lake, but he was always available to give his friendly advice on farming. Howard and Helen traveled during the winters to AZ and FL for many years making great memories with family and friends. He enjoyed listening to country music, spending time with family and friends, and dancing. He had his own special dance steps known as the Howie Diehl Shuffle. He also had a great sense of humor.

Howard is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Ken) Moorhouse and Norma (Steve) Pennington; sons, Steve (Ginger) Diehl, Scott (BilliJo) Diehl, and Ron (Lisa) Diehl. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren, Lisa Opperman, Monica Hollars, Andrea Chupa, Stacey Kartes, Jill Diehl, Stevie Diehl, Jody Dantzer, Mike Anderson, Brandan Pennington, Jason Pennington, Jessica Gilbert, Cody Diehl, Zack Diehl, Jorie Diehl, Brandon Diehl, and Josie Diehl; 31 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and his special friend, Ida Peter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; brother, John Diehl; granddaughter, Nicole Taylor Diehl; and great grandchildren, Taylor Diehl and Arika Dantzer.

Per Howards wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Logan Township Hall in Prescott, MI with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Brenda Klacking will officiate.
