Howard Dean South, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at The Villa at Rose City. He had lived in Rose City, MI for the past 27 years, formerly of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Howard was born on December 20, 1926 to Jess and Clare (Bowen) South in Bainbridge, IN where he was raised on a farm. He joined the United States Army Air Corps and served during WWII. Once he returned home from the service, he moved to California and operated a Texaco station. Howard later moved to Michigan and started his own business, Howard South Shell in Bloomfield Hills for 25 years. He married Margaretha Ritmeester in Las Vegas, NV on June 6, 1987. He enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors.
Howard is survived by his wife, Margaretha “Marge” South of Rose City, MI, children, Don, Pam Sue, Pam Joan, Deanna, Jill, Victoria, and Ricky; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and twin brother, Donald South. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters.
Howard will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a later date.
Arrangements were handled by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City, MI.
