Henry Hernandez

Henry Hernandez, age 76 of St. Helen, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023 at his home in St. Helen. Henry was born to Mariano and Lola Hernandez on November 17, 1946 in Saginaw, MI. He married Lois Jean Hardyk on June 28, 1997 in Defiance, Ohio. Henry has lived in St. Helen since 2006, formerly of Defiance, Ohio. Henry served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Henry worked for General Motors in Saginaw from 1971-1988 then transferred to Defiance, Ohio where he worked there for another 17 years. Henry was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in St. Helen and St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch. He enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, collecting 45 records and Michigan hats. He was a big Michigan fan.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Lois Hernandez of St. Helen, sons; Henry (Joanie Holman) Hernandez of Defiance, Ohio, Edward Hernandez of Defiance, Ohio, stepchildren; Andrew (Angie) Hardyk of State College, PA, Rise (Jarod Green) Wood of Mexico, Benjamin Hardyk of Oakley, CA, Salena Norris of Mount Airy, NC, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings; Gloria Martinez of St. Helen, Lucy (Larry) of Bay City, James Hernandez of Saginaw, Ricky Hernandez of Saginaw, and William Hernandez of Saginaw.

He is preceded in death by siblings, Mary Lou Prather, Jesse Hernandez, Josie Gawthrop, Alberto Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez, David Hernandez, and Mario Hernandez.

Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 4-8 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM until time of service. Rev. Carl Petzold will officiate. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in St. Helen at 2:00 PM.
