Harold E. Jones

Harold E. Jones, age 90 of West Branch, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at his home. He had lived in West Branch for all of his life. Harold joined the CCC Camp when he was 17 years old and served in the Upper Peninsula. He also served in the U.S. Army during WWII under Gen. Patton, serving in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving decorations and citations including the European Theater Ribbon w/3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, 2 Purple Heart Medals and World War II Victory Medal. He retired from West Branch Concrete after 40 years. Harold loved being outdoors, enjoyed fishing and hunting, his roses and house plants. Harold is survived by his children, Robert (Mary) Jones of Saginaw, Gary (Arlene) Jones of Rumely, Betty Jones of West Branch and Gerald (Christine) Jones of Saginaw, grandchildren, Brian (Chrissy) Jones of West Branch, Teresa Atherton (Greg Rose) of Stockbridge, Jeffrey (Shannon) Jones of Vassar, Lori Jones of Saginaw, Colleen Esler of Antioch, IL, Amy (Anthony) Rosario of Whitewater, WI and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Betty Laskey of Florida and Wilma Patton of Bay City, brother, Wayne (Jackie) Jones of Newago and his brother in law, Carl Walter of West Branch and his sister- in-law, Joy Jones of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine in 1983, brothers, Leo and Irwin Jones, sisters, Florence Muriel and Alice Sharow and his sister in law, Joan Walter. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 1-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The Ogemaw County Veterans Alliance will officiate with burial following at Edwards Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands, West Branch.
