Harlan Jed Minor, 87, died peacefully Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Horizon Senior Living, West Branch, Michigan. Harlan was born September 11, 1933 in Saint Clair, Michigan to Jed and Ida Mae (Cleland) Minor.
Harlan attended Eastern Michigan University achieving a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in Education Administration. For over 30 years Harlan resided in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan while teaching physical education for the Grosse Pointe Public Schools. Upon retirement Harlan divided his time between residences in West Branch, Michigan and Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Harlan was a member of the National and Michigan Education Associations. He was a longtime member of the West Branch Country Club. Harlan was proud of his service in the United States Army, attaining the rank of captain. Additionally, he helped orchestrate American Red Cross blood drives and was for decades a regular donor himself. Harlan particularly enjoyed the game of golf, hunting, and fishing, University of Michigan football and spending time with his family.
Harlan is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Beverly (Wallace) Minor of Ypsilanti, Michigan. They were married June 9, 1955. Sons, Harlan (Karen) Minor of New Baltimore, Brian Minor of Canton, and Samuel (Terri) Minor of Boyne City: grandchildren, Harlan, Sarah, Zac and Nic; sister, Carol Langell of Millsboro, DE; brother, Jerry (Judy) Minor of Belton, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fred and James Minor, and sister Lorraine Cassidy.
In accordance with Harlan’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a small memorial ceremony at Brookside Cemetery, West Branch with date to be determined.
Memorial contributions are appreciated and can be made to the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association or Compassus Hospice.
