Gordon Elton Harrington

June 2, 1932 — April 5, 2021

Gordon Elton Harrington, age 88 years, was born June 2, 1932 in Elmira, MI. His parents were Hugh and Olive (Morrow) Harrington. Gordon grew up in the Johannesburg area.

Gordon married Joyce Hoy on June 15, 1956 in Hetherton, MI. Together they raised three daughters, Desta Wenzloff of River Forest, IL, Niko (Mark) Benjamin of Rose City, and Kylee (Brandon) Clayton of Crestwood, KY. He enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, Spencer, Jordan, Allison, Nikolas, Andrew and Ty and Lily. Gordon is also survived by his brother, Harold (Ena) Harrington and his sister, Elsie (Michael) Mastorovich. His wife, Joyce, and one son, Kent, preceded him in death.

Gordon was an army sergeant and served overseas in the Korean War. After coming home, he returned to Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA where he graduated. He later received his master’s degree in Education (M.Ed.) from Central Michigan University. He was a high school teacher, class sponsor, and elementary and middle school principal in Rose City for more than thirty years. He retired in 1989. Gordon spent much of his retirement in Pinellas Park, FL. He enjoyed all kinds of wood working, collecting and donating thousands of children’s books to underprivileged schools, looking for ‘treasures’ at antique shops and traveling to most of America’s National Parks. He attended the Pine Grove Community Church of Pinellas Park.

We mourn his loss but find comfort in knowing Gordon is now with the Lord.
