Gladys May Sykes

Gladys May Sykes, age 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at The Brook in West Branch, MI. She was born on December 16, 1922, in Parry Sound, Ontario Canada to Cecil and Ada (Yeates) Robinson.

Gladys lived in Mills Township, MI since 1974 formerly of Dearborn Heights, MI.

During the war, she was a stenographer and could type 100 words a minute. After the war, she was a full-time mother caring for her family of 7 children. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Prescott and volunteered her time with the PTA at school. Gladys enjoyed church, knitting, taking pictures, and making copies of photos for everyone. She also enjoyed baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and everyone loved her cookies. She enjoyed being a mother to her children. She loved visiting with people and her church.

Gladys is survived by her children Dorothy Karoub, Barbara (Gary) Grantham, Raymond Sykes, Earl (Colleen) Sykes, and Pearl (Chad) Leitner; 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd “Mike”, daughter Gloria Sykes Berman, son William Sykes, sister Dorothy Elliott, and brother Gerald “Earl” Robinson.

Visitation will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Prescott at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Edward Meyer will officiate.

Burial at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, MI will be on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.
