Gerald Norman Lucas, age 87, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024, at The Villa in West Branch, MI. He was born on June 24, 1937, in Mt. Morris, MI, to Norman and Evelyn (Suter) Lucas. He was raised on a farm in Gladwin, MI, before making West Branch his home in 1959.
On October 28, 1961, he married Mary Alice Curtis.
Gerald dedicated 36 years of his life to working at Brown Machine in Beaverton, MI, where he was known for his diligence and commitment. His journey was marked by service, as he proudly served in the US Navy Reserve, being honorably discharged due to eyesight complications.
He was a man of faith and a valued member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch, where his spirit of kindness and gentle demeanor touched the lives of many. Gerald's personality and warmth drew others to him, creating lasting connections within his community and among his fellow church members.
Gerald is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Lucas, who stood by him through the years, and their three cherished children: Lori (Michael) Deen of Shelby, MI; Shannon (James) Berridge of Adrian, MI; and Thomas Lucas of West Branch. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy: Nathan (Jessica) Oram, Emily (Luke) Ulrich, Melissa (Eric) Schaafsma, Isaac Berridge, Abby Lynn, Christan Deen, Cody (Becky) Deen, Ryan Lucas, and Ashlee (Jessie) Davis. He also took great delight in his great-grandchildren: Jayden Rose, Jackson Schaafsma, Levi and Mason Ulrich, Evelyn Oram, and Ellie Deen.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog Shaggy.
A private burial will be held at Calvary Baptist Cemetery in West Branch.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Christian Academy.
In celebrating his life, we remember Gerald as a humble soul who shared his love with all who knew him, embodying the spirit of compassion and familial devotion. As he journeys safe in the arms of Jesus, his memory will forever resonate within the hearts of his family and friends.
