Gerald H. Getty, affectionately known as Jerry, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at The Villa of West Branch, surrounded by his family. Born on April 4, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, to Howard and Marie (Detloff) Getty. Jerry led a life filled with love, dedication, and a deep connection to his community.
For many years, Jerry owned and operated Getty's Electronics, a cherished business he purchased from the Niles family in 1972. He ran the shop until his retirement in the late 1980s, leaving a lasting impression on those who frequented his store.
After retirement, Jerry enjoyed traveling around the state, showcasing his creativity at various art and county fairs. He was known for selling his projects, which included custom license plates, wind chimes, and his famous peanut butter. Many townsfolk may remember seeing him riding his electric three-wheel bicycle through the streets, embodying his fun-loving spirit.
Jerry was a caring and helping person, volunteering his time with organizations like St. Vincent DePaul and Habitat for Humanity. Jerry also assisted his community as a volunteer Firefighter for the Clear Lake Area Fire Department. He had a passion for tinkering with computers and loved to watch classic movies featuring "The Duke," while also collecting memorabilia related to his favorite actor. Most importantly, Jerry cherished the moments spent with his family.
Jerry is survived by his son Jeff Getty of Prescott, MI, his daughter Jackie (Ferd) Evans of South Branch, MI, and son-in-law Chris Overley of West Branch, MI.
