George M. Curtis, age 85, passed away suddenly Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the West Branch Regional Medical Center. George was a life long resident of West Branch. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge the Kiwanis Club the Lions Club and the VFW post # 3775. George was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy. He also attended the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and was past president of the West Branch Country Club. In 1947 until 1951 George taught and was superintendent for the Rose City Schools, he then was superintendent for the Pinconning schools from1963-1967. He became principal of Bay City Central High School from 1968-1979, and past superintendent of the West Branch-Rose City Area Schools from 1979-1983. George is survived by his wife of 61 years Melvina Curtis of West Branch, Children- Judy D. Roy of Danvers, MA, Donald G. Curtis of West Branch, Larry C. Curtis of Mt. Pleasant, and Howard J. Curtis of Jackson. 11 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. Brothers and Sisters Betty Coleman of Washington, Dorothy Clayton, Geraldine Oliver, Carl Curtis, Virgil Curtis and David Curtis all of West Branch and Mary Lucas of Alger. He was preceded in death by his brothers Leith Curtis and Glen Curtis and his parents Ira and Edwyn. Visitation for George will be held at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Sunday, October 29, 2006 from 6-9 PM and Monday, October 30, 2006 from 12-9PM. The Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 1:30 PM at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home West Branch. Rev. Daniel Stoneback will officiate. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or the Educational Support Partnership; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
