George Henry Frailey

July 18, 1926 — July 19, 2017

George H. Frailey, 91, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Fort Worth TX from pneumonia (complicated by renal and congestive heart failure). He was admitted to Weatherford Regional Medical Center on June 21 for fluid build-up, and was moved to ICU on June 28. He died peacefully while his hands were held by his wife Nellie and youngest son James.

He leaves four sons (David, Daniel, Paul, and James), eight grandchildren (Shannon, Christopher, Mark, Timothy, Sherri, Hannah, Asher, and Taylor), and four great-grandchildren (Ian and Devin Smith, Aiden, and Olivia). He also leaves his older brother Leroy of St Petersburg, Florida.

He was preceded in death by parents Walter A. Frailey (1981 aged 79) and Mercia L. (nee Hulett) Frailey (1971 aged 68).

George was born in Harvey, Illinois on July 18, 1926. His father worked as an accountant and his mother as a homemaker. He was drafted and served in both the US Navy and the US Marine Corps (as a radio operator in the Korean War). After he was discharged from the Marine Corps he studied chemistry at Ohio State University, and met his wife Nellie (of 61 years) while renting a room from her parents. It was also here that George met Jesus Christ while reading a New Testament, when he needed a break from his studies. He read all the way to Romans and then said "Lord, I'll do whatever you want me to do". This forever changed the course of his life, those that have been blessed by his work and ministry, and those of us who follow. He and Nellie were married on Aug 27, 1955 and both felt called to spend the next three years attending the missions program at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Next, they moved to New York where George attended and graduated from Hofstra University on Long Island with an undergraduate in medicine and, was then accepted by the State University of New York where he graduated in June of 1964 with a Doctor of Medicine. Internships and residencies followed in Youngstown OH, Kalamazoo MI, and York PA, and then a year of emergency room medicine in Portland OR.

In 1970 George and Nellie moved to Fairview Michigan, where he joined a medical practice in Mio Michigan with Warren Bontrager, and had hospital and surgery privileges at Tollfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch Michigan. They would call this area of Oscoda County home for the next thirty years. George was the quintessential "country doctor", frequently making house calls and accepting patients at all hours of the day or night. And, somehow, also finding time to serve as a stand-in pastor, a deacon, and adult sunday school teacher.

In 2008 George and Nellie effectively moved to Weatherford TX (next to his youngest son James) after he underwent triple-bypass heart surgery and (almost simultaneously) suffered partial renal failure.

George has touched the lives of many (professionally, through his ministry for Christ, and those in his family). He will be dearly missed.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch, MI on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Baptist Cemetery with Military Honors. Pastor Tom Teall will officiate.
