Frank Nagy, 90, of St. Helen, Michigan passed away peacefully in the loving warmth of his daughter and son-in-law’s home, Violet and Al Maten, in Cheboygan, Michigan, on Saturday, October 26th, 2013. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Joseph and Julia (Toth) Nagy on May 1, 1923, Frank spent his youth in Detroit. He is a proud World War II Veteran who served in the South Pacific during very difficult combat years. When the war ended, Frank moved to his farm in rural Tuscola County where he wed his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Esther (May) Nagy on July 14th, 1946. Esther predeceased him on December 11, 2005. It was on the farm where Frank and Esther raised their four children and instilled in them a love for the land and an appreciation of its bounty. In 1972, Frank sold the family farm and took a job with Laethem Equipment Company in Fairgrove, Michigan, where he enjoyed the challenge of machinery assembly, trouble-shooting and repair. Upon retirement, Frank was a lay pastor for many years serving in Caro, Skidway Lake, Millersburg, Gaylord areas as well as the Upper Peninsula. He preached the gospel of Jesus Christ with a broken heart for lost souls and for the nation he loved. Frank will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, high energy, ability to repair anything mechanical, great intelligence and his intense love of God, family and country. Frank is survived by his four children – Helen Smith (Husband, Cliff) of Gaylord, Joe Nagy (Wife, Debbie) of Caro, Violet Maten (Husband, Al) of Cheboygan, and Julie Anglim of Harbor Springs. He prayed every day for his six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. They were a source of great joy and pride for him. A memorial service to celebrate Frank’s life is planned for Saturday, November 16th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at North Country Baptist Church located at 14392 M-68 Highway, Millersburg, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Frank’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports injured soldiers returning home from the current conflicts and to provide assistance to their families. https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org. Or contributions can be made directly to North Country Baptist Church for furnishings needed for their new church.
