Francis Spern, age 92 of West Branch, passed away at West Branch Regional Medical Center. He had lived in the Clear Lake area since 1972, formerly of Freeland. He was a member of the Dennis McKellar VFW Post #6468 of Rose City and the DAV Chapter #73 of Lupton. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the European and Far East Theaters and was a volunteer fireman for the Clear Lake Fire Department. He attended the West Branch and St. Helen Senior Centers. Mr. Spern is survived by his children--Emanuella Davis of Melbourne, FL and Francis (Kathleen) Spern of Saginaw, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna in 1991. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Thursday January 20, 2005 from 2-5 P.M. from 7:00 P.M. until the time of the service at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue until 9:00 P.M. Fr. James Doherty will officiate. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Freeland. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands, West Branch.
