Floyd Albert Hopewell Sr.

Floyd A. Hopewell, Sr., 85, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 at West Branch Regional Medical Center with his family by his side. He was a resident of West Branch since 1970. He was born June 2, 1929 in Sullivan County, Indiana to David & Alexandria (Umstead) Hopewell. Floyd served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He married Margaret Strange on January 3, 1952 in Ozark, Alabama. Floyd was employed by Marathon Oil Company and worked in Illinois and was later transferred to West Branch. He retired in 1986 from Marathon Oil Company after 37 years of service. After his retirement Floyd and Margaret enjoyed 20 winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. He was a member of the American Legion in Plymouth, Illinois. He enjoyed family visits, going to auctions, gardening and caring for flowers.


He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 3 grandsons. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 62 years, sons, Floyd Jr. aka Jay & Jan Hopewell, of Middleville, MI, Mark & Mary Hopewell of West Branch, MI., and Daniel & Kellie Hopewell of West Branch, MI., grandchildren Marlana & Chris Kucharek of Grayling, MI., Marty & Dara Hopewell of Clare, MI., Matthew Hopewell of Grand Rapids, MI., and Aaron Klimaszewski of Alger, MI., great grandchildren Lizzie, Ethan, and Emma Kucharek, and Emmett Hopewell. Floyd is also survived by a sister, Phyllis Rousey of Sun City, Florida, and a brother John Hopewell of Sullivan, Indiana.

There will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date.
