Ethel M. Mayhew, age 90, of Rose City passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Gentle Waters Adult Foster Care in Hale. Ethel married Delaure in 1938. He operated a beef cattle farm in the Rose City area. Ethel resided there until 2006. She was a member of the Eastern Stars in West Branch. Ethel was born August 20, 1916 to Frank and Maude (Fetterman) Kuhn. She lived in the West Branch Rose City area her entire life and pursued a career in education. Ethel attended the Red School in Selkirk as a child and graduated from West Branch High School in 1934. She continued her education at County Normal receiving her teaching certificate. Years later, she attended Central Michigan University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in education in 1965. She was a rural teacher in many schools in the area. She retired in 1977 as a 4th grade teacher at Surline Elementary School in West Branch. Surviving family members include her daughter Blanche Blood of Lupton, sons Dean (Eilene) Mayhew and Dale Mayhew, both of Rose City, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Delaure, 3 brothers Russel, LaVerne and Laurence Kuhn, son-in-law James Blood, Sr., 1 great-grandson Brent Mayhew and her parents Frank and Maude Kuhn. Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Monday, March 19, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jack Rice will officiate. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands.
