Erwin Francis Myas “Flash”, age 89, passed away at his home in West Branch on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. He was born in Royal Oak to Earl and Edwina (Zettle) Myas on January 11, 1930. He spent 4 years in the Navy aboard the USS Mindoro Aircraft Carrier. He served as a radioman, sending and receiving, courses GIC for P03 and NFC for RM3 at Naval “A” RM School. Flash married Jean Fox on October 3, 1953. He worked at West Branch Precision Plant, Evans Bicycle Plant of West Branch, Manufactures Life Insurance Company out of Toronto, Morris Richardson Real Estate Company, Done a lot of Trucking and built and ran Flash Wood Products Saw Mill.
In the early 50’s, he built and raced Pro Stock race cars. Then he built and raced Michigan Modifieds, open wheel. He gave up racing, reluctantly, at the age of 71. He was an avid hunter, ran snowmobiles, boating and skiing on snow and water and enjoyed horses. He spent winters in Florida playing golf, fishing and lounging on the beach with many friends.
Flash is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jean Myas of West Branch; son, Kim (Anita) Myas of West Branch; daughter, Lori (Mark) Bohlinger of Kalkaska; son, Rex Myas of New York City; brothers, Donald (Shirley) Myas of Kalkaska and Raymond (Renata) Myas of West Branch; granddaughters, Marky Myas and Ché and Jasmine Engle; grandson, Landon Myas; great grandson, Lucas Middleton; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, James Earl, sisters, Catherine (Robert) Richardson, Viola (Robert) Warren and Theresa (Clifford) Barringer.
Cremation has taken place.
