Ervin P. Augustine, age 87 of West Branch, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Horizon Senior Living Home in West Branch. Ervin was born June 14, 1925 in Gladwin, the son of George and Bertha Augustine. He had lived in West Branch since 1975, formerly of Gladwin. Ervin taught at W.B./R.C. Schools for 30 years. He taught business Math courses and kept up with income tax certification classes. Ervin was a member of the Gladwin Eagles and VFW Post #3775. Ervin was a P.O.W. in Germany during World War II. He served in the 505th Parachute Infantry 82nd Airborne Division. He also enjoyed planting a large garden so he could give away his vegetables to his neighbors and friends , playing cards and cribbage at the Senior Center and fishing. Ervin is survived by niece, Nancy (Forrest) Schwander of Mattawan, MI, stepson, Arnold L. (Tamala) Elwood Jr. of St. Charles, MI, nephew, Kenneth (Sandy) Augustine of Beaverton, MI , sister, Esther Joseph of Fredericksburg, VA, close companion, Marge Gogin of West Branch, MI, special friend, Barrie McMillan of Scottsdale, AZ, and many other nieces and nephews across the country. He is preceded in death by wife, Mabel Augustine. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 2-6 pm. The Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 11:30 at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Stoneback will officiate with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Advantage or the D.A.V. Special thanks to neighbors and friends for all their help and support.
