Eleanor Mae Hanft

Eleanor Mae Hanft, also known as Ellie, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Midland, MI, at the age of 91. Born on Thursday, December 4, 1931, in Detroit, MI to Seth and Doris (Muntz) Miller. Ellie was a kind and generous person who will be deeply missed by her loved ones.

Ellie found joy in spending time with her family, solving puzzle books, and watching Wheel of Fortune. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in West Branch, where she worshipped, and spent many a Sunday teaching Sunday school.

During her career, Ellie worked as a telephone operator with Michigan Bell here in West Branch for many years. She also enjoyed being a school crossing guard for the City of West Branch.

Ellie is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Lindy L. Hanft of West Branch, and her children: Jeffery (Lori) Hanft of Ortonville, Howie (Lynn) Hanft of West Branch, Sandy Hanft of Oscoda, and Lisa (John) Curnow of West Branch. She was a loving grandmother to Kristy (Cory) Mitrzyk, Steven (Heather) Hanft, Elizabeth (Michael) Godfrey, Alex Hanft, Victoria (Dylan) Jensen, Seth (Alyssa) Hanft, and Sammy Curnow. Ellie was also a cherished great-grandmother to Bonnie Godfrey and Hendrix Jensen. Eleanor was also an amazing Aunt and Great Aunt to many Nieces and Nephews who always loved to come and visit her at the cabin!

She was preceded in death by her Father Seth Miller and Mother Doris (Muntz) Steinhauser Gould, and her beloved Sister, Bernadine (Pat) McKenna.

A Celebration of Life for Ellie will be held at a later date for family and friends.
