Edward H. Buckel Sr, age 77 of West Branch died peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, May 3, 2008 with his loving wife by his side. Edward was born on March 13, 1931 in West Branch and lived in the area all his life. He married Melvia Kartes June 24, 1961 in West Branch. Ed enjoyed working on tractors, hunting, and doing things for and with his family. Edward is survived by his wife Melvia, his children, Annie (Ron) Parrish, Denise (Dale) Johnson both of West Branch and Edward Jr. (Jim Smith) of Peoria, Arizona, grandchildren, Lynnette, Megan, Carrie, James and Sarah. Also surviving is his sister, Patricia Zauner of Clio, brothers, Robert (Elaine) Buckel of Millington, Russel (Estelle) Buckel of West Branch and Charles (Pauline) Buckel of Fostoria. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Schick and his parents, Harry and Elizabeth Buckel. Ed was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the VFW Post #3775 and the K of C Council #2022. He served as an Edwards Township Trustee for 28 years, was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and was a past member of the Pioneer Power Tractor Club of West Branch. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 12-9 p.m. with a K of C Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and a Scripture Service with Fr. Robert Bissot at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. Fr. Richard Seifferly will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands, 4-H Shooting Sports or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
