Douglas Allen Zimmerman

March 21, 1968 — March 15, 2024

St. Helen, MI

Douglas Allen Zimmerman, affectionately known as Doug to his friends and family, left this world peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, on Thursday, March 21, 1968, to Patti (Marlon) Hicks and the late Roger Zimmerman, Doug's zest for life and kind-hearted nature touched many throughout his 55 years.

Doug spent his childhood in the Midland area, where he attended Midland High School, graduating in the spring of 1986. He was a man known for his strong work ethic, beginning his career at a young age at the Giant grocery store. Over the years, he made significant contributions to every workplace he was a part of, including Wayne Dalton garage door systems and Home Depot in Gaylord. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to eventually own and operate PDZ Trucking. Doug was admired by his colleagues and employees alike for the passion and dedication he brought to his work.

Having lived in St. Helen for the past two years, and previously residing in Gaylord and Dewitt, Doug made a lasting impact on every community he called home. He was a true Michigan outdoorsman, an avid hunter who never missed an opening day, and a fisherman who cherished time spent in nature. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his generosity, as he was deeply involved in giving back to his communities, supporting organizations such as the local Humane Society and Food Bank.

Doug's kindness and passion were the hallmarks of his character, traits that were evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a beacon of light within his family, deeply loved and respected. He leaves behind his mother, Patti (Marlon) Hicks of St. Helen, MI; his sister, Kelly (Shelby) Meyer of Kiawah Island, SC; along with his adoring nieces and nephews, SydneyMegan Kovach, Cole, Chase, and Lana Zimmerman. Doug will also be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were all an integral part of his life.

Preceding him in death were his father, Roger Zimmerman, and his brother, Brian Zimmerman. The memories they shared as a family will continue to be cherished and celebrated by those he left behind.

The world is indeed a better place for having had Doug in it, and while he will be sorely missed, the memories of his vibrant spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Rest in peace, Doug; your journey has been one of joy, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to the things that matter most in life.

A Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Those wishing to honor Doug’s memory may consider a memorial donation to your local Humane Society.
