Doris Madeline Hyde, aged 91, was called to her eternal rest on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born on September 5, 1932, in Williamsburg, VA to Ray and Bertie (Campbell) Mallory. Doris lived a vibrant life filled with the joys of creation and exploration. She lived in West Branch, MI since 1953, formerly of Williamsburg, VA.
A self-taught seamstress from her youth, Doris lovingly crafted clothing for her children, a testament to her skill and dedication. Her home was a trove of cherished collections—from thimbles, old books, school items, pigs, old wooden hangers to spoons, each piece held a story. Known for her spirited crafting sessions, Doris's hands were rarely still, always at work on a new project.
Her warmth shone brightest during the holiday season, as she gathered her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to share in the tradition of baking gingerbread cookies, moments now held dear in their memories. Alongside her beloved husband Cecil, Doris embraced the wanderlust spirit, their travels in their motorhome weaving a tapestry of memories across all 50 states, and some Canadian Provinces. She cherished her trip to Hawaii with her sister Eleanor as well.
Doris's life was one of service and fellowship, manifest in her membership with the American Legion Auxiliary, Muscular Dystrophy, Wild Wood Wheelers, and the Red Hat Society. She found spiritual solace at Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch.
Doris's legacy is carried on by her loving daughter, Susan (Majid) Ansari, and her daughter-in-law, Joyce Hyde. Her endearing spirit lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Michael (Yena) Hyde, Scott (Sara) Hyde, Brad (Emily) Hyde, Brandon (Sophia Papageorgiou) Ansari, and Mandy (Andrew)VanVelzel, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren Addison, Alaina, Aaron, Austin, Liam, Brady, Ellie, Hazel, and Roxanne Hyde, Theodore Ansari, and Brody and Brooks VanVelzel. She is also fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Linda Mallory, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Doris in passing were her parents, husband, Cecil; her sons, Kenneth and Michael; her sister, Eleanor (Jim) Hile; and her brother, Bill Mallory.
