Doris Helen Leonard, age 90, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the Medilodge Nursing Home in Sterling, MI. Doris was born on Monday, July 21, 1930 in Flint, MI to Samuel A. and Lilly (Cease) Deming. She had lived in West Branch since 1973 previously of Flint. Doris was married to Harry Leonard for 51 years; he passed on June 14, 1998. In the 1960’s, Doris worked as a head cashier at the Yankee Department Store and also at the Hamady Brothers Supermarket both in Flint, MI. In 1973, Doris and Harry moved their family to Harry’s family homestead in West Branch. It was then that she had time to get her GED all while raising her family, and even working part time at H&R Block. In her free time Doris loved spending time with her family, she enjoyed crocheting, and traveling.
Doris is survived by her children Samuel (Ellen) Leonard of White Lake, John (Rosemary) Leonard of Owosso, Thomas (Barbara) Leonard of Fenton, Patricia (Nathan) Bone of St. Helen, Christopher (Julie) Leonard of Fenton, and her daughter in law Lenore Leonard of Highland. She had 16 grandchildren Samantha (Brent) Meijers, Joel (Jamie) Leonard, Tracy Cowles, Branden (Jennifer) Leonard, Shannon Kuhn, Ryan (Alisa) Fuhr, Brynn (Fuhr), Jon (Karie) Bone, Jenifer (Matthew) Hooten, Jared (Megan) Bone, Karri (Douglas) Spoelstra, Christopher (Nicole) Leonard, Lance (Laura) Leonard, Rachel Leonard, and Austin Leonard. She also has 30 great grandchildren, and her step grandson Tom Bates.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Dean, granddaughter Nicole, and 5 siblings, Albro Deming, June Marsh, Francis Schultz, Betty Yack, and Theodore Deming.
Visitation for Doris will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch from 3-7PM. Her Funeral Service will be held at the Brookside Cemetery in West Branch on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 2:00PM with visitation at the cemetery beginning at 12:00PM.
Memorial Contributions for Doris are suggested to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
Visitation will be held with precautions, due to the current pandemic, limiting the number of attendees at a given time.
