Dora Jean Babcock, 77, of Rose City, passed away at home, Friday, 11 March 2016, surrounded by her husband of nearly 60 years and their children.
She was born on the family farm in Rose Township on 20 October, 1938 to DeVere and Nina Borden. A life long resident of Rose Township, she married her childhood sweetheart Walton Babcock of Roscommon County, on 28 July, 1956 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Rose City. She was baptized and has been a life long member of the church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member and supporter of the Rose City Historical Society for many years. She is a Rebekah and served in all positions at the state level including President of the Rebekah Assembly of Michigan in 2012. She was elected and served as the Rose Township Treasure for many years. She retired from West Branch Rose City area schools in 2001 after 32 years as a school bus driver. D.J. as she was known to friends and family was a talented craftswoman enjoying painting, crocheting, and sewing.
Dora is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Walton Babcock of Rose City, son, Allen (Lisa) Babcock of Alger, Lynn Zettle of Williston, North Dakota, Lisa (Bruce) Reimer of Sagola. Michigan, 5 Granddaughters, 3 Grandsons, and 1 Great Grandson as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is proceeded in death by her half brother R.D. Boddy and half sister Ida Reetz.
A memorial is planned for 9 April 2016 at 11AM, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rose City. The family ask in lieu of flowers, any donation be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in her name.
