Don S. Lucas, age 71 of Alger and West Branch passed away Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his home in Alger. Funeral Services will be held at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will begin on Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 2-9 P.M. Don was the oldest son of Sherman and Martha (McLarty) Lucas and one of five children. He was born in Standish Michigan on July 26, 1934 and moved to West Branch a very short time later. He enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served overseas in the Korean Conflict. Don and Jean Casaroll married in 1954 and had four children. Upon finishing in the Navy, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service right in his home town of West Branch for 25 years. Not long after his retirement, he took on the responsibility of a new family when he married his present wife Elaine in 1990. As a young man, Don developed a love of horses and horse trading as well as gun collecting and gun trading. Don was well known as a trader and it was his special talent, traveling the backroads looking for any great deal. Up to his last day he was gun trading. He touched thousands of lives. Survivors include his wife Elaine of Alger, children, Donna (Roland), Jeffrey (Marty), Donald J. (Kathy) and Debbie Jo (Bob) Resteiner, Rachael (Erek) Jacobs, Bobby Broughton, Stephanie (Jack) Mrozinski and Larry. Don also had several grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Jamie, Jacie, Jorie, Ethan, Richard and Angela and four great-grandchildren, Michael, Haley, Devon and Mackenzie. Also surviving are his sisters, Marlene Bamfield, Carolee (Tom) Poling and Sally DeVries, his brother, David (Nona) and many nieces and nephews and all his dedicated trading buds. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law, Bill Bamfield.
