Donald George Ross, age 94 of Alger, MI passed away on June 1, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. He was born to George and Marie (Forton) Ross in Detroit, MI on July 9, 1920. While serving in WWII in the Army Air Corps, he was a pilot, radio operator, and tail gunner on B-17’s. Don was a union steward and foreman at Bower Roller Bearing Company in Detroit, MI. He worked with Trio Council on the Aged for several years. He also worked at Prestolite Company for several years.
For 15 years, Mr. Ross was a volunteer at the Saginaw VA where he received the “Young at Heart Award” in 2011. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Wildwood Fire Department for 30 years.
Don is survived by his children, Carolyn Dilts of Canton, MI, Donna Verbouw of Grand Blanc, MI, Don Ross of Lake City, MI, and John Ross of Boone, NC. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, brother, George Ross of Williamsburg, MI and sister, Patricia Kosa of Swartz Creek, MI, along with his beloved companion, Bernardine Denton. He is preceded in death by his wives, Gertrude and Billie.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and military honors will occur at Great Lakes VA National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
