Denis Anthony Weiss, 76, passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2018 at The Villa in Rose City, Michigan, while surrounded by his friends and family.
Denny was born on July 25, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of William and Mary Weiss. He will be remembered by his brother Bill Weiss, as well as his children Eric Weiss (Eman), Alan Weiss (Lynn), and Lori Esper (Jeff), fourteen grand-children, one great-grand child, and his dog Hoss. Denis was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary, his brother Dick, his son Mark, and his beloved wife Joan.
Denny and Joan were high-school sweethearts, and they married on September 1, 1962. Denny earned multiple degrees in engineering and business administration from the General Motors Institute, University of Michigan, and Bowling Green State University. He spent his career in the manufacturing industry, holding high-level positions in companies such as Rockwell International, Crown Leisure Products, Huffy Bicycles, and Kirby Industries. Denny and his family finally settled down at Taylor Doors in West Branch, Michigan, where he and his wife Joan retired at their residence on Lake Ogemaw. After retirement, Denny began teaching at Kirtland and Baker Community Colleges, and he performed management consulting services as well.
Denny had many interests in life, but his greatest passion was aviation. Denny obtained his private pilot’s license in 1997, and he proceeded to build his own airplane from the ground up. Denny was also heavily involved in the Experimental Aircraft Association chapter at the Ogemaw County Airport, he shared his love of aviation by flying members of the Young Eagles Association, and he simply loved flying around the skies of northern Michigan with his wife Joan.
Denny was a role-model for his family, a pillar of the West Branch community, and he touched many, many lives in his earthly pursuits. His loss will be felt by many, and he will be remembered in the hearts of his loved ones for eternity.
Visitation will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Glen Painter will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Heartland Hospice, so they can provide the same wonderful services to others in their final days as they did for Denny.
