Dean E. Atherton

Dean Atherton, age 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Brook in West Branch, MI. He had lived in West Branch his whole life. Dean was born on January 30, 1926 in Lansing, MI to John and Leora (Twining) Atherton. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a Seabee in New Guinea. Dean worked at the Ogemaw County Herald for over 40 years, retiring in 1998. Dean was a foreman and part of the prime days of the Ogemaw County Herald and part owner of the company. He loved his family and his work. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, baking and gardening.

Dean is survived by his children, Dianne (Tom) Gavitt of West Branch, Karen (Blaine) Gaudette of Orlando, FL, Lorna (Roger) Noble of West Branch and Janet (Larry) Foss of Howards Grove, WI; grandchildren, Tonya (Gary) Sancrant, Tony (Patricia) Gavitt, Jeremy (Holly) Gaudette, Andrew Gaudette, Jeff (Becky) Gaudette, Randy Gaudette, Kimberly (Chris) Vetter, Heather (Casey) Phelps, Kayla (Kevin) Ahrens and Charlie (Leah) Foss; great grandchildren, Garett, Shelby, Levi, and Hannah Sancrant, Jared, Nathan and Lianna Gaudette, Logan and Lucas Vetter, Ian, Isaac, Elliot and Emmett Gavitt, Gwenyth, Ella and Tyson Phelps, Pierce and Roslyn Ahrens, and Alivia and Ella Foss; sisters in law, Martha Gussman of Independence, MO and Linda Gussman of Independence , MO; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosanna Atherton; daughter, Sharon Atherton; sister, Eunice Myers; and brothers, Joe Atherton, Robert Gussman, David Gussman and Leo Gussman; and grandson, Scott Noble.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Tom Teall will officiate.
