David Lee Kaffenberger, age 82, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at his home in St. Helen, MI surrounded by his family. He was born in Oxford, MI on July 19, 1940, to Frank and Mary (O’Bryan) Kaffenberger. He lived in St. Helen for the past 27 years, formerly of the Goodrich and Ortonville areas.
David married Elaine Valentine in Clawson, MI on December 27, 1958.
David served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church and the Knight of Columbus. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed watching the deer, fishing, and camping with the grandchildren. David volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul for over 20 years.
David is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elaine Kaffenberger; children Renee (Gregory) Benson, Scott Kaffenberger, Laurie Porter, Steven (Karen) Kaffenberger, and David (Amy) Kaffenberger; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; brother James (Sandra) Kaffenberger; sister Mary O’Hagen; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Paul, brothers Jerome, Herman, Joseph, and Eugene, and sisters Dorothy, Susie, Agnes, Frances, and Annie.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a K of C Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at the St. Helen Catholic Church on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. Father Jerry Hunko will officiate. Burial will be at Ortonville Cemetery in Ortonville, MI.
